So it looks like I won't be posting here every day, but I'm okay with playing catch up. It was Friday yesterday and that means that I'm in the quilt shop from 10-2. We have this thing called "Block of the Month". People sign up for it and each month get a kit to make one of the blocks that will be part of a larger quilt. One lady, who is new to quilting, came in last week with a piece of fabric from one of those kits. She said that she was shorted and wanted to know if we had any more of the fabric. We did not and I advised her to talk with my boss, the store owner, because she would know if we had some tucked away somewhere or if she could get more. The lady came in the next day and my boss graciously bought from a website at the retail price more of the fabric she needed and paid for the shipping. Yesterday the lady came in and my boss handed her the free fabric. I watched as the lady took it and looked it over and said nothing. She said absolutely nothing! If someone gave me something from their store free I would be all "Thank you, thank you!" and would definately offer to pay. To say the least I was very appauled at this bad behavior.
The lady then shopped around the store for a while. She was with another woman who I am guessing was her mother. She then came to the cut counter and showed me a picture on her phone of a quilt and asked if we had that patteren. I told her that I didn't know and that she could look around the store or look in the books that we have. Then I suggested that she get some graph paper and recreate the pattern by looking at the picture. I just got blank stares from the two women. I quietly told her mother that she could also go to the library and look at books there. I was not going to help them beyond that. And at that, that was a ton of help! Ungratefulness is ugly.
Lesson: Always say thank you when you are given something. Remember to thank God daily for all the many things you have. You have more than you realize!
